7 Effects of Berberine Hydrochloride

Berberine hydrochloride tablets, commonly known as "Huang Lian Su", are over-the-counter antidiarrheal medications in China. They are a major alkaloid found in the rhizome of the Ranunculaceae plant Coptis Chinensis, and can be extracted from Berberis Aristata, Phellodendron chinense, or Gnaphalium affine. Berberine hydrochloride tablets have various clinical applications, primarily including the following:
(A) Digestive System Diseases
1. Intestinal infections: such as gastroenteritis, diarrhea, dysentery, etc.
Interpretation: Berberine hydrochloride has an inhibitory effect on a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, especially on a variety of pathogenic bacteria such as hemolytic streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus.
2. Peptic ulcer: It has an inhibitory effect on Helicobacter pylori, which can reduce the toxicity of Helicobacter pylori infection to cells, thereby assisting in the treatment of peptic ulcer.
Explanation: The mechanism of action of berberine hydrochloride tablets in treating peptic ulcers mainly includes antibacterial (anti-Helicobacter pylori), anti-inflammatory, gastric mucosal protection, inhibition of gastric acid secretion, and improvement of gastrointestinal function. Clinically, it is often used in combination with other drugs (such as proton pump inhibitors and antibiotics) to improve the therapeutic effect.
3. Chronic cholecystitis: Combined treatment with trisulfide tablets for chronic cholecystitis in the elderly can reduce the level of inflammatory factors in the patient's serum and improve clinical symptoms.

Its efficacy is definite, its safety is good, and it is particularly suitable for combination therapy strategies.
2. Hyperlipidemia: It can effectively regulate blood lipids, reduce the levels of total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) in plasma, and increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).
